Who Will Win the BCS Championship Game in 2013?
It is the big question that every football fan wants an answer to. Who is going to take home the big crown in college football in 2013? Who is going to take the baton from Alabama, claiming bragging rights for an entire year. The SEC has dominated the championship conversation of late. Florida, LSU, Auburn, and Alabama have all been in the mix, winning their fair share of titles. Can the SEC do it again? Or will some upstart take home the title in 2012? There are a few questions to answer before we can answer the big one.
Will Alabama repeat?
Before you can talk about a new champion, you have to talk about the old one. Can Alabama take home the title? They certainly could win it all. Chances are good that they won’t. Alabama has the athletes to reload after losing big time guys to the NFL. That will take a little bit of time, though. Chances are good that Bama will not have an easy time replacing Trent Richardson or the host of players on the defensive side of the ball that went into the NFL draft. This will be a slight rebuilding year for Alabama, and they will not win the crown.
Will the SEC have another champion?
Many people will assert LSU as the champion in 2013. The Tigers had a good shot at winning it all last season and they return a number of key players. This should be their year by all accounts. Georgia also has a great team led by a top quarterback. Those two teams, in addition to Alabama, make up the threesome that has a good shot at winning the title. Unfortunately for fans that have grown accustomed to SEC dominance, the league will not win this particular title. Though they might have a club in the big game, they will not bring home the crystal this time around.
What about USC?
Southern California has been out of the picture for a while now. The Trojans had to weather the NCAA sanction storm. They also had to go through a difficult coaching change. That club has a lot of firepower to lean on in 2012 and 2013. Between QB Matt Barkley and a great receiving corps, they should devastate people through the air. With the transfer of Penn State running back Silas Redd, they have an established running back. As with all USC teams, the offensive line and linebackers should be good. This club looks like one poised to take a title. They won’t be winning it either, though.
The Oregon Ducks fly high
Think back to the last couple of years. Which team has had the most high-powered offense in all of college football? Which team has the most innovative coaching staff? If you said Oregon, you would be right. Chip Kelly ranks as one of the best coaches in the country. He puts together a system that few other coaches can match. He has also recruited very well. The boys in Eugene have depth and skill. They have an established quarterback who figures to lead the offense once again. The difference this year will be the defense. Oregon returns some studs on the defensive side of the ball.
The Ducks have been close over the last few years. In 2012, they ran into a road block against LSU in week one. That won’t happen this time around. The Ducks are going to fly high in 2013, taking home the BCS championship in a tough battle with the winner of the SEC.
